The Wimbledon Prestige

Wimbledon is known as the pioneer in conducting major tennis championships and considered by the majority as the most prominent league worldwide. The championships that run for a duration of two weeks are held every year from the latter part of June to the beginning of July in London, England specifically at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. The tournament is actually the third Grand Slam annual affair in the field of tennis. Australia Open and the French Open precede the event while the U.S. Open follows it. Play-offs start on a Monday that is approximately six weeks before the first Monday of August. This usually falls between the 20^th and 26^th of June.

Prior to the Wimbledon, tennis competitions also take place. In fact these are regarded as warm-up events for the aspirants. Queen’s Club as well as the Gerry Weber in Halle, Germany serves as the practicing ground for the Wimbledon male players. On the other hand, the women invade the grounds of Birmingham and Eastbourne in the United Kingdom in order to get a feel and be accustomed with the green grass in time.

The Events

There are five separate main events being played simultaneously at the venue. For the males, the categories are Gentlemen’s Singles and Gentlemen’s Doubles. In order to emerge as the winner, the competitors undergo a single of elimination and must defeat their opponents utilizing the rule best of five sets for the finals. This means that for males to be proclaimed as victorious, they have to be successful in three out of five games.

Females compete among themselves too. Similar to the male category, the Ladies’ Singles and Ladies’ Doubles make use of the single elimination process.  However, they differ in the finals since instead of five sets, only three matches are being competed. Whoever garnered two out of three sets shall win.

The Mixed Doubles is also a popular part of the two-week tournament. In addition to the five main events there are four more invitational games are being carried out. For the gentlemen who are grouped as aged 35 above and those 45 above Doubles as well as for the ladies who fall under same age bracket.

For the youth categories are Boys’ and Girls’ Singles, Boys’ and Girl’s doubles. However, the Mixed Doubles are not done for the junior level.
